The City of Waupaca, Wisconsin (population 6,041) is accepting applications for the position of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. This full-time position reports to the WWTP Operations Team Leader and the Public Works Director/City Engineer in the Public Works Department and will perform technical, skilled and manual work in the monitoring, operation, routine maintenance and repair of the equipment and facilities used in the headworks, primary and secondary treatment, anaerobic digestion process, solids handling system, and the disinfection process of the Regional City of Waupaca Wastewater Treatment Plant (average 1.1 MGD) , as well as related work as required.

Various duties include but not limited to: Performing process-related sampling and lab testing in accordance with established procedures and schedules for constituents such as pH, DO, Nitrogen, Total Suspended Solids, monitoring and operating all plant equipment and processes, operating the main plant control SCADA and sanitary collection system SCADA, investigating "alarm" conditions and insuring that corrective action is taken; operating and maintaining the wastewater collection system including sanitary sewer liftstations, and performing routine buildings, equipment and grounds maintenance work as required including the cleaning of all process-related work areas and equipment.

Requirements preferred: Graduation from a two-year specialized training program in wastewater treatment including laboratory procedures and an internship at a wastewater treatment facility or equivalent training and experience. Additional training in mechanical and electrical systems is desired. Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License is required. Possession of a valid Wisconsin DNR wastewater treatment plant Grade 4 operator's license and a Wisconsin Commercial Driver's License with air brakes and tank endorsement, or ability and willingness to obtain these licenses, is desired.

The City of Waupaca, Wisconsin offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including health and life insurance. The 2012 hourly rate for this position ranges from $19.53 per hour for an uncertified operator to $21.47 for a Grade 4 certified operator. The probation period would be 6 months.
