ASSISTANT PLANT SUPERINTENDENT
North Shore Sanitary District, Gurnee, IL

Located in Lake County, Illinois, the North Shore Sanitary District has a
supervisory position in one of its three wastewater treatment plants. The District
is the second largest Sanitary District in the State of Illinois. Its operations are
large-scale wastewater treatment plants with an average MGD of 15 to 20.
Job Duties:
Perform functions to assist plant superintendent to plan, coordinate and manage
the day to day operation and maintenance of an advanced waste water treatment
plant, to insure discharged water meets district quality standards, and to ensure
compliance with NPDES permit conditions set by the IEPA. In between eight and
twelve employees report to this position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Design and operation of advanced WWTP - activated sludge. Personnel
management skills - employees and peers. Administrative, budget and clerical
skills. Practical working knowledge in engineering. Basic knowledge of
mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, electronic, instruments and technology. Lab
analysis/wastewater treatment microbiology. General building, equipment and
landscaping maintenance. Advanced math and science skills. Governmental
regulations (i.e. EPA, OSHA, IDOL, etc.). Basic computer skills. Read, write and
speak English language fluently.
Other Requirements:
? Class 2 IEPA Wastewater Operator License
? 3 years of wastewater treatment operations experience (preferred)
? Valid Driver?s License.

Assists in the operations and maintenance of the Village?s Sewer and Water Services, including 2 potable
water systems, wells, 2 wastewater collection systems, and a wastewater treatment facility to ensure
safe, economical and efficient operation.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED);Class C IEPA Water License and Class 3 IEPA
Wastewater License. Minimum of two year?s experience in water/wastewater field; or equivalent
combination of education and experience. Technical training is desired.

The Application Engineer will be responsible for receiving and evaluating customer inquiries and specifications, preparing preliminary designs and evaluating wastewater treatment plant integration requirements, creating associated proposals for customers, and managing and coordinating activities with product lines as required. Travel to customer sites to conduct energy-related surveys, generate inquiries, and develop customer relationships.
- The Applications Engineer works with Sales Engineers and Sales Representatives to establish/define customer requirements.
- Prepare equipment specifications and costs for RFQ?s; must be able to extract necessary information for the design of
the equipment or system from written specifications and other customer documents.
- Perform technical drawing for RFQ?s including creation of P&ID?s and other technical documents and drawings.
- Provide support to customers with technical questions and product applications via phone or email.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Chemical, or Civil/Sanitary Engineering.
- At least three years of experience in the manufacture and fabrication, operation or testing of wastewater process
equipment, especially equipment used to optimize solids handling operations.
- Ability/Willingness to travel to local and national customer sites.
